Summer in Amsterdam can surprise you. One minute you’re bundled up under an umbrella, the next you’re looking for a spot to cool down with the kids. Luckily, Amsterdam has some brilliant paddling pools where little ones can splash around for free while you relax nearby.

Here are our favourites:

1. Westerpark Water Playground
A local favourite, especially on sunny days. There’s a shallow pool perfect for toddlers and a big grassy area for picnics. Don’t forget snacks – the nearby cafés get busy quickly.

2. Oosterpark Splash Area
Right in the middle of the park, there’s a fun water feature where kids can splash around to their heart’s content. Bring a towel and maybe a change of clothes, because they will get soaked.

3. Beatrixpark Paddling Pool
This one feels like a hidden gem. It’s shaded, quiet and perfect for younger kids. There’s even a small playground next to it, so you can easily spend a few hours here.

4. Amsterdamse Bos Paddling Spot
If you fancy making a day of it, head to the Amsterdamse Bos. It has a shallow water play area surrounded by nature – ideal for a little adventure out of the city centre.

5. Vondelpark (Near Groot Melkhuis)
The famous Vondelpark isn’t just for bike rides and picnics – there’s a small splash area near Groot Melkhuis café. It’s great for cooling off after a play in the playground or a walk around the park.

What to Bring:

  • Towels and dry clothes (trust me, you’ll need them)
  • Snacks or a picnic – these places get busy, and hungry kids are no fun
  • Sunscreen and hats for sun protection

Amsterdam in summer is short but sweet, so when the sun shows up, grab your towels and let the kids splash to their heart’s content.
